Should The Hurt Locker have won the prized award for Best Picture or should the critically acclaimed giant, Avatar, taken prize? Many felt that the highest grossing film of all time should have taken cake with it's stunning visuals and thrilling storyline, however The Hurt Locker took reign as the Academy's top prize winner. Do you agree?

After watching The Hurt Locker, I can see how the choice between the two was a difficult one. This film was filled with great action, top notch acting, and a moving storyline that kept you interested to the end and touched close to home for many viewers. I must say, this was one the better films on modern day warfare that I have seen. The cinematography was excellent and the sound producing and mixing was superb.

Having seen both, I lean towards Avatar, however, I feel that The Hurt Locker is almost equally deserving as well. Avatar provided us with never before seen visuals that are sure to make your jaw drop even after the 3rd or 4th time of watching. The storyline, cliche, but well executed? Absolutely. Many criticize saying the storyline was poor and the only thing good was the visuals. I personally will have to disagree. I feel the combination of jawdropping visuals and well laid out storyline could have earned Avatar top spot.

So should have the mega-giant Avatar, with it's deep-pocket budget have beat out the lower budget Hurt Locker?

The Hurt Locker: 3/10

Spoiler:
I was bored through the entire [censored] movie. The only time I felt any kind of excitement at all was when... actually, I can't really think of a scene. I was going to say it was the scene where James forgets his gloves at the Detonation 2 zone and drives down there, and then Eldrich and the black guy (never really caught his name) are talking about blowing it (and him) up, saying it was an accident. However, it was such a short scene that I don't think it really should considered.
The only GOOD parts of the movie were the explosions and then Eldrich reaming James out for shooting him. Cinematography was meh (then again, I'm not really one for shaky cams... I know it's supposed to be all "gritty" and more realistic... but it's so [censored] hard to see wtf is going on. It's a different kind of perception when you're in a vehicle going over rough terrain and trying to focus on an object, as opposed to a camera being in a vehicle going over rough terrain trying to focus on an object, you know what I'm saying? The human eye can stay focused on something while the head moves around, but a camera cannot.
Then there's also the blatantly obvious "that would only happen in a movie" scenes, like when the bomb-squad comes upon those brits that have to change the tire... idk about you, but the big fat guy who ISN'T holding a gun and is sitting there changing a tire on a truck is the single LAST person I'd decide to take out if I was the sniper. Those Iraqis were probably watching the entire encounter from when the Americans first arrived, so you'd think that the person taking point would be the #1 target of any smart sniper, or maybe the guy who tells his friends to lay down the guns, since his friends seem to do what he says, which would kind of establish some sort of ranking status.
Also, the thing with the chopper or jets flying overhead every time something bad was about to happen, or to make you think something bad was about to happen, kind of got annoying after the 3rd time... but they kept throwing it at you.
Oh yea, and film crew being seen in at least 6 different shots kind of broke the 4th wall for me a bit.
PS, this is only my first time seeing it, too, so it's not like i've watched it over and over and analyzed every bit of it.
